Headteacher’s Welcome

A welcome message from our headteacher.

Headteacher’s Welcome

I am extremely privileged to be the Head Teacher of St. Joseph’s Catholic Primary School.

St. Joseph’s is a welcoming school, at the heart of the local community. Parents, children and staff are proud of their school and everyone looks after each other. We have a wonderful and dedicated staff team which enables all children to flourish. The ambitious curriculum in place in all year groups motivates children to do well and expands their interests. We have strong links with our local community and church, which allows us to attend to the spiritual needs of all pupils. We are fully committed to ensuring that every child’s primary years are exceptional.

We are proud of the rich heritage of our school building and the history of education it has provided for many pupils.  As a catholic school, we warmly welcome children of the catholic faith as well as those following other faith traditions.  Part of the Bishop Wilkinson Catholic Education Trust, we are partnership of schools who challenge and support each other to set the highest expectations for our staff and our pupils.  We relish this approach.

Our school mission statement at St Joseph’s is:

Work hard, love tenderly, walk humbly: trusting in God.

We live our mission statement daily and we instil three important principles in all we do:

  • Be respectful;
  • Be responsible;
  • Be ready to learn.

This makes our school a fantastic place to learn, achieve and thrive.

St Joseph’s welcomes 3 – 11 year old children:

  • We have a planned admission number of 30 places in each age group from our Nursery then Reception (start of statutory school age) to Year 6 (final primary year before transfer to secondary education);
  • We have 1 class in each age group which enables our children to benefit from a close-knit school family ethos. At St Joseph’s, every child is known;
  • We have breakfast club childcare from 7.30am – 8.45am;
  • We have after school provision which runs until 5.30pm;
  • We provide a range of additional after school clubs which change as we progress through the academic year.

Joining our school

Starting school in our Nursery or Reception for the first time is a milestone in a child’s life. We make sure our induction process is both gentle and extensive.  This makes sure you, and your child, will feel ready, and excited, to join us.

We welcome all children – no matter what their individual needs – and strive to include them with additional support in all areas of the curriculum.  We aim for every child to make progress whatever their starting point or background. If you would like further information, please contact our school office.
